7-1-1 or 1-800-842-9710A person who is deaf, hard-of-hearing, deaf-blind, or speech-disabled uses a TTY to type his/her conversation to a relay operator, who then reads the typed conversation to a hearing person. The relay operator relays the hearing person's spoken words by typing them back to the TTY user.
- Dial the relay TTY number.
- The relay operator will answer with "SPRINT RSC OPR 8234" (for relay operator identification), "F" or "M" (for Relay operator gender) and "GA." ("GA" denotes "go ahead.")
- Type in the area code and telephone number you wish to call and then type "GA."
- The relay operator will dial the number and relay the conversation to and from your TTY. Type in "GA" at the end of each message.
- When you finish conversation, type “SK” for "Signing Off" then hang up.
Voice
7-1-1 or 1-800-833-8134Standard telephone users can easily initiate calls to TTY users. The relay operator types the hearing person's spoken words to the TTY user and reads back the typed replies.
Dial the relay Voice number.
You will hear, "Relay Connecticut Operator (number). How may I help you?"
Give the relay operator the area code and telephone number you wish to call and any further instructions.
The relay operator will process your call, relaying exactly what the TTY user is typing. The Relay operator will relay what you say back to the TTY user.
When you finish conversation and are going to hang up, say "Signing Off" then hang up.
Spanish Relay
7-1-1 or 1-877-855-0921Relay Connecticut offers Spanish relay service.
TTY users can type in Spanish and the conversations will be relayed in Spanish.
To request Spanish relay, type in the area code and telephone number and then "SPANISH TO SPANISH GA."
Also, Spanish to English Translation is offered. TTY users can also request Spanish to English to Spanish translation via relay.
To make a Spanish Relay call, dial Relay Connecticut and instruct the CA how you want your call translated.

ASCII
7-1-1 or 1-800-842-9710Computer users can access Relay Connecticut directly. ASCII Split Screen is designed to allow High Speed ASCII computer users and relay operators to type and communicate more clearly and quickly. Typed text by both the caller and the operator will appear on split windows on the computer screen. ASCII users can interrupt the operator if needed, or the operator can interrupt the ASCII user if requested to do by the voice party.
1. Go to the Start menu.2. Choose Programs, and then choose Accessories.
3. Then choose Hyperterminal. (On some programs you will need to choose Communications in the Accessories menu and then Hyperterminal.)
4. Enter a name for the connection, i.e. Relay.
5. A box will pop up, enter the number you wish to dial (Relay).
6. Press the ENTER key.
7. In the next box, click Modify.
8. Choose Configure.
9. Set these settings:
If your computer has 1200 Baud or up, use these settings:
- 8 Bits
- No Parity
- 1 Stop Bit
- Full Duplex
If your computer has 300 Baud or below, use these setting:
- 8 Bits
- No Parity
- 1 Stop Bit
- Half Duplex
10. Press the ENTER key.
11. Connection screen will pop up again.
12. Click on Modify again.
13. Then choose the Settings tab.
14. Go down to ASCII setup.
15. Check Echo typed characters locall, change Line Delay to 120.
16. Click the Enter key, then OK, and then OK. You should now be all set to dial.
Note: It may be helpful to set your "time out" to 100 seconds.
